Yes, I believe race is is a real thing, even though that has some nuances sometimes. The Caucasian race is the least pure race of all seeing the many different eye and hair colours about.
Yes, we have evolved separately but that is more due to the fact that the word hadn't been discovered yet. However, the Romans already mixed with the Berber of North Africa.
If some people like to identify with race that is up to them. And if they want to preserve it the best of luck to them, as long as I'm not forced to segregate or persecuted when I do mix (there used to be laws that forbade race mixing once).
To me humans are just humans. I think race mixing has always existed where peoples contacted each other.
